The Owasso Rams and Bixby Spartans will meet this Thursday night in the fourth annual QuikTrip Battle of the Burbs, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at H.A. Chapman Stadium on the University of Tulsa campus. This is a neutral-site contest featuring two of Oklahoma’s highest-ranked Class 6AI programs.

Bixby enters the 2025 season ranked No. 1 in the Tulsa World preseason Class 6AI poll, with Owasso right behind at No. 2. The matchup follows recent high-stakes showdowns, including state championship games in 2022 and 2024.

This game serves as an immediate rematch of last season’s 2024 Class 6AI state championship. Bixby claimed the title in dramatic fashion, defeating Owasso 43–42 in overtime. The Spartans secured the win with a bold two-point conversion, executed with a run by Cooper Parker to close out the contest. Regulation ended tied at 35–35, and although Owasso scored first in overtime to take a brief lead, Bixby responded with both a touchdown and the decisive two-point run to clinch the championship.

Owasso head coach Bill Blankenship described the matchup as both a rivalry and a measuring stick. “The bottom line is the last three or four years since we’ve had Bixby in our rotation, they're here and we're right there. And we have not quite crossed over… everything we're doing, we're just trying to raise our bar, raise our performance by another 5%. We’re chasing Bixby, and let's just embrace that."

The Rams return several key contributors:

  • Quarterback Drew Frankenfield, a junior, leads an offense that includes returning receivers Noah Hill, Tae Bethel, and Julius Wilson.

  • Running backs Jayden Hall and Chris Zaferis bring depth and experience to the ground game.

Blankenship highlighted the strength of the defense, particularly the front seven anchored by Tajh Overton and Ben Duggins. In the secondary, Carter Langenderfer, a three-year starter at safety, is expected to anchor the back end.

Blankenship emphasized the importance of confidence and execution: “The key is to not let the moment get to be too big. If we do that and we play with confidence and execute, I think we'll come out ahead.”
