Owasso’s Tajh Overton Commits to Oklahoma State
One of the nation’s top defensive linemen has decided to stay close to home.
Tajh Overton, a highly touted four-star prospect from Owasso High School, has committed to Oklahoma State University, delivering a major in-state recruiting victory for the Cowboys' 2026 class.
Ranked No. 174 nationally and No. 27 among defensive linemen by 247Sports, Overton is also the top-ranked player in Oklahoma for the 2026 cycle. This marks the first time since 2021 that Oklahoma State has secured the state’s No. 1 prospect, with the last being safety Kendal Daniels.
Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 275 pounds, Overton was the cornerstone of a dominant Owasso defense that powered the Rams to a 12-1 record last season. Known for his disruptive play in the trenches, he consistently shut down offensive plays before they could develop. Owasso’s impressive season ended in heartbreak with a narrow 43-42 loss to Bixby in the 2023 Class 6A-I state championship.
Overton’s decision came after receiving more than 25 Division I scholarship offers. He ultimately chose Oklahoma State over a host of powerhouse programs, including Oklahoma, Miami, Ole Miss, USC, and Texas.
For Oklahoma State and head coach Mike Gundy, Overton is a pivotal addition and the highest-rated commitment in the Cowboys' 2026 recruiting class so far. His pledge adds momentum to OSU’s efforts on the recruiting trail and solidifies their investment in local talent.
Overton, a rising senior at Owasso, is set to lead the Rams’ defense in 2025. After a brief one-year retirement, Head Coach Bill Blankenship returns to guide the team once again. The Rams will kick off their season with a much-anticipated rematch against Bixby, revisiting last year’s thrilling state championship showdown.
