Rams Lock Up District Title; Escape Battle with BTW in Military Night Doubleheader
The Owasso Rams baseball team capped off an exciting Thursday with back-to-back victories and plenty of memorable moments both on and off the field. First, they clinched the district title against Enid in a high-stakes makeup game. Later, during a thrilling Military Night matchup, they rallied to beat Booker T. Washington in walk-off fashion. Here’s the full breakdown.
Game One Recap: Clinching the District Title Against Enid
The Rams and the Enid Plainsmen faced off in a rescheduled contest to determine the district championship, and the stakes were evident from the start. Enid came out swinging, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. However, the Rams were quick to respond, cutting the deficit to 2-1 by the second inning.
The pivotal moment came in the bottom of the sixth. With Owasso trailing 2-1, sophomore Colby Whiteman stepped up with the bases loaded and delivered a clutch 3-run double to put the Rams ahead 4-2. The electric play brought the home crowd to its feet and cemented Whiteman’s status as a player to watch.
The Rams shut the door in the seventh inning with solid pitching and defense, wrapping up the game with a 5-2 victory. The win secured Owasso’s place as district champions, finishing 13-1 in district play and improving their season record to an impressive 33-2.

Game Two Recap: Military Night Fireworks
The evening’s second game, a non-district matchup against Booker T. Washington, kicked off with a special Military Night celebration. A dramatic entrance by an Oklahoma Highway Patrol helicopter delivering the game ball set the tone, and OHP trooper Lance Schroyer threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
The Rams carried their earlier momentum into the game, scoring early with four runs in the second inning and adding two more in the third for a 6-0 lead. However, the game took an unexpected turn in the fifth inning. Owasso’s pitching staff struggled, surrendering seven walks and hit batsmen, which allowed the Hornets to stage a stunning comeback and take a 7-6 lead.
The Rams responded quickly in the bottom of the fifth. Left fielder Chris Zaferis smashed a two-out triple, igniting the crowd. Moments later, a critical balk allowed Zaferis to score, tying the game 7-7.
The game came down to a tense final inning. With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh, junior Drew King was the hero of the night. King drilled a single to bring home the winning run, earning the Rams a hard-fought 8-7 walk-off victory. The dramatic finish capped Military Night in unforgettable style.
Looking Ahead
With their district title secured, the Rams, 33-2 on the season, now turn their focus to hosting the regional playoffs at Stigall Field next week. The schedule is yet to be finalized, but Owasso’s recent performances make them a formidable contender as the postseason begins.
